Mobile-first experience

matahari is built for mobile-first play, recognising that most Southeast Asian users access sportsbooks and casinos via smartphones. Our interface adapts to small screens without sacrificing clarity; buttons, text, and game tiles scale proportionally on devices ranging from 4-inch phones to 10-inch tablets. We optimise data usage by lazy-loading images and videos: match thumbnails and casino previews load only when scrolled into view, reducing initial page weight. Push notifications alert users to live-match updates, cashback deadlines, and new tournament launches without requiring the app to stay open. The platform supports low-data mode, which disables image loading and uses text-only match displays for users on slow or metered connections. On slower networks (3G / 4G), the interface remains responsive; games load progressively, allowing players to start betting while graphics finish rendering. Android users can install our native APK directly; iOS users access the full platform via Safari's add-to-home-screen feature, which creates a bookmark-like icon that opens matahari in fullscreen. All device types sync account data in real-time, so a bet placed on phone appears instantly on desktop and vice versa.

Android app installation

Android users install matahari by downloading our APK file from the official app download page. The APK is a direct installation package (not routed through Google Play), which gives us faster update cycles and allows us to adjust features without waiting for app-store approval. After downloading the APK, users tap it to install; Android will prompt for permission to install from unknown sources (a one-time approval). Once installed, the matahari icon appears on the home screen and in the app drawer. The app requests standard Android permissions: location (optional, for geolocation-based payment routing), camera (for KYC document uploads), storage (for caching game assets and transaction history), and network access (required for all gameplay and payments). Users grant these permissions during first launch; they can revoke any permission later via Android Settings without affecting core functionality. The app automatically checks for updates weekly; users are notified when a new version is available and can update directly from within the app using just a few taps. APK file sizes are kept under 50MB by streaming game assets on demand rather than bundling them all locally. For users with limited device storage, the app's storage footprint can be cleared via Android Settings without losing account data (which is server-side).

iOS access notes

iOS users do not download a separate app; instead, they access matahari through Safari or any iOS browser. To create a home-screen shortcut, users open matahari in Safari, tap the share button, and select "Add to Home Screen." This creates an icon that launches matahari in fullscreen mode, mimicking a native app experience without requiring App Store submission. The web version of matahari is optimised for iOS; buttons and menus scale appropriately for touch interaction, and the Safari interface hides automatically during gameplay for maximum screen real estate. iOS browsers (Safari, Chrome on iOS, Firefox on iOS) all use Apple's WebKit rendering engine, ensuring consistent performance across them. Push notifications on iOS work through our in-app notification system rather than OS-level notifications, meaning users see alerts only when matahari is open or in the background; they do not clutter the iOS notification centre. For KYC document uploads on iOS, users can take a photo with the device camera or select an existing photo from their photo library; the app automatically crops and enhances the image for clarity. iOS users can also use Face ID or Touch ID for account login if their device supports biometric authentication and they enable it in account settings. The web experience on iOS is fully functional but slightly slower than a native app would be; iOS limits background processing and caches more aggressively than Android, so some game features may take a few extra seconds to load on first use.

Web app and browser version

matahari's web version runs in any desktop or mobile browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and requires no installation. Users simply visit matahari.bet and log in; the browser handles all rendering. The web version is identical in features to the mobile app and includes the same sports markets, casino games, and payment methods. Desktop browsers offer larger screens, which suit multi-game play and detailed match schedules; many users prefer the web version for in-depth league analysis before placing bets. Mobile browsers (on iOS and Android) also run the web version at full quality, with interface scaling adjusted for portrait orientation. Browser-based play has one advantage: no app update overhead; matahari's backend pushes feature updates instantly, and users always see the latest version without downloading anything. The tradeoff is that browsers do not have offline capability; if a user's internet drops mid-game, they are disconnected. The native Android APK, by contrast, can cache match data and allow brief offline play for certain sports markets. Both the app and web version store login credentials securely; users can elect to stay logged in on personal devices or require a password for every session. Clearing browser cache and cookies removes saved login data; this does not affect account security (only local convenience).

Data usage and optimisation

matahari prioritises low data consumption for users on limited mobile plans. Images are served in multiple resolutions; the app detects connection speed and device screen size, then loads the smallest image that still appears sharp (e.g., a 300px thumbnail on a phone vs. a 800px image on desktop). Video streams (live-match footage, casino dealer feeds) default to standard definition (480p); users can toggle a "High Quality" option if they have fast connections, or select "Low Data Mode" to reduce video bitrate to 360p. Match schedules and odds are cached locally so users can browse upcoming Liga 1 fixtures without a fresh download each time. Game asset bundles (slot-game graphics, live-casino UI elements) are downloaded once and reused; only new games or updates require additional data. For users with truly constrained data (e.g., rural areas, metered plans), we offer a "Text-Only Mode" that strips all images and videos, reducing data per page load to under 500KB. Transaction history, account settings, and bet slips are all text-based and consume minimal data. Push notifications are optional; disabling them in settings stops all background data use for alerts. During heavy traffic periods (e.g., Liga 1 final matchday), our CDN (content delivery network) distributes game and media files from servers closest to the user's location, reducing latency and data loss.
